Boys Lacrosse Out-Hustles Hornets
5/18/10
Cross town rivalry may be back in vogue.  After a few years of Hopkins being pretty dominant in this match-up of friends, Hamden Hall seems to be putting things together again.  And Hopkins simply doesn’t have the athletes and talent of the past years.  So a couple of 4and teams went at it in spirited, if not especially skilled fashion.
The visiting Hilltoppers probably had a little better of the action in the first- shots were 10-2 in the period- but it finished 0-0.  (0-0 in lacrosse??!!) The Hornets outworked the visitors in the second but it stood 1-1 at the intermission.  (1-1 at halftime in lacrosse??)  The second half saw more of the same- neither team had the offensive talent to put much pressure on the defense but Hopkins got 2 to Hamden Hall’s 1 to eke out a really tight 3-2 win.  Senior Brandon Stone, returning after a nasty 27stitches gash to his leg suffered in a practice had a goal as did Connor Kistler and Mike Rogers (the game winner with three minutes left on a nice feed from Mark Festa.) Captain Doug Steinberg had 9 saves in the win, his last varsity contest..  In the end, the Hilltoppers were a tiny bit better in a game that wasn’t a great advertisement for the sport of lacrosse but was for hustle and effort.
