Term II Opens
1/19/10
This morning, faculty and students returned to campus after an extended winter break to begin the 2010 Term II semester.
The energy was high at assembly as friends reconnected after a four week hiatus from campus. Head of School Barbara Riley welcomed the community back, highlighting that 2010 has finally arrived for the graduating class of Seniors. She also welcomed back students and faculty who had been participating in off campus programs or sabbaticals last semester, as well as new faculty members joining on as long-term subs. Mrs. Riley said she hoped that the students had a chance to read the All School Book, The Book Thief, over break, as a number of special guests at assembly over the course of the term will be related to the book. Mrs. Riley also spoke of the earthquake disaster in Haiti a week ago, and announced a challenge to the Hopkins Community: to raise $4000 in one week to send to the Red Cross in aid of the people of Haiti. Donations will be taken for the remainder of the week and totals announced at next Monday's assembly.

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King's Birthday, S.U.R.E (Students United for Racial Equality) members Molly Gibson '10 and Franklin Sylvester '10 read an excerpt from Dr. King's "Beyond Vietnam" address from April 4, 1967, a year before he was assassinated.
