Every other year the Hopkins swim team takes a winter training trip during the winter vacation.  Over the past few years the team has gone to Puerto Rico, Florida, Acapulco Mexico, and St Croix.  With the extended winter vacation this year it allowed us to take a slightly longer trip and go to Hawaii.  The team flew direct from Newark to Honolulu and stayed at the Ocean Resort Hotel in Waikiki for ten days.  In the ten days that the team was in Hawaii we had two-hour practices twice each day at the Iolani School in Waikiki.  Side trips included an afternoon at Pearl Harbor, a sail to Turtle Canyon to observe the sea turtles and the whales, surfing lessons for the entire team, a trip to the Aloha Stadium swap meet, and a trip around the south shore of the island and the Diamond Head crater.  The weather was in the low 80's every day, sunny, and gorgeous.  Hawaii is truly paradise.
