Head of School Barbara Riley called a special assembly this morning where the students and faculty were treated to a performance by the Concert Choir and a surprise announcement about classes on Friday.
The Hopkins Concert Choir has been practicing tirelessly in preparation for the special 350th Anniversary Concert to be held at Yale University's Woolsey Hall this Thursday, April 15, at 8pm. The concert will also feature the Choate School Chorus and distinguished accompanists. Ms. Riley and Asst. Head of School John Roberts have arranged for a student pizza party on campus after athletics finish on Thursday, and buses to drive students downtown to attend the concert at Woolsey Hall. Buses will also be taking students back to Hopkins after the performance, and parents can pick their students up here at 10pm. To make this late night of celebratory events easier on the students and faculty, Ms. Riley announced that there will be no classes on Friday in honor of the 350th. The students erupted in cheers at the announcement. Thursday night will be a night to remember and all members of the Hopkins Community are invited to join in the festivities to fill the great Woolsey Hall with Hopkins spirit.

Letter to Parents from John Roberts:
Dear Hopkins Families:
This message is to confirm the reports of a special once-in-every-three-hundred-and-fifty years Three Hundred and Fiftieth Day to be celebrated on Friday, April 16. The celebration means no classes on Friday but Varsity and JV athletics will continue as scheduled. The reason for the Three Hundred and Fiftieth day celebration is to make it possible for our entire school community to join together for what promises to be an historic and memorable Spring Choral Concert at Woolsey Hall on Thursday, April 15 at 8 pm. Our singers and musicians held their dress rehearsal yesterday and between the stunning beauty of Woolsey Hall and the excitement that has been generated around the concert as a result of Mrs. Riley’s announcement of the Three Hundred and Fiftieth Day, Mrs. Wich told me her kids fully realize how important tomorrow night’s concert will be to the School, the Arts program, and our sense of community.
In order to make it possible for students to attend the concert, we are offering a pizza party in Heath Commons on Thursday from 6 to 7 pm. We will also be providing bus transportation to Woolsey Hall at 7 pm for anyone, and that includes parents and families, who would like to start and end their trip from the Hopkins campus. We wanted to make it possible for people to enjoy the concert experience without having to worry about traffic and parking downtown. The buses will depart from downtown shortly after the concert is over and I anticipate returning to School around 9:45 pm.
Please let me know if you will be joining us for the bus ride across town and back, and if your child is planning on staying after school for the pizza party. I don’t want to come up short on food or seats on the buses, so please let me know if either of these options are helpful to you. (jroberts@hopkins.edu or 203.397.1001 x122)
To repeat, we are proud and excited to be showcasing our amazing Concert Choir at the Spring Concert at Woolsey Hall at 8 pm tomorrow night as part of our giant Three Hundred and Fiftieth year celebration. In order to make it possible for our community to turn out in what we hope will be huge numbers to experience this wonderful night of music and fellowship, we have decided to cancel classes for Friday.
I hope this message finds you well and enjoying this glorious spring day and I hope to see you all at Woolsey Hall tomorrow night at 8 pm.
Respectfully,
John Roberts
