Italy Trip 2010
5/7/10
Over Spring Break 18 students visited Italy for a week. Read on to find out about their trip.
During the 2010 Spring Break 18 Hopkins students, a Hopkins mom, and teachers Ms. Horsley (Classics) and Ms. Picarazzi (Modern Languages) visited Italy for one week.  They spent the first few days in Rome, where they were led by an expert art historian through Classical Rome (Colosseum, the Roman Forum, Pantheon, etc.), The Vatican, and Bernini's statues at the Villa Borghese.  They then headed South and took up lodging in the charming sea-side town of Sorrento.  From there they toured Pompeii, Paestum, and Amalfi, also with expert guides.  The students enjoyed authentic food, cappuccino, and meaningful encounters everywhere they went.  You can read some of their comments below.

"I really liked our trip to Italy because my conversational Italian improved.  Furthermore, our hotels were beautiful!  The hotel in Sorrento was perfect, small and very cute.  I'm happy I went to Italy, and I like all of my new friends!"
- Louise Newman, Class of 2011

"Our trip to Italy greatly exceeded my expectations, which were set high to begin with. Every aspect of our week in Italy--from visiting ancient Roman ruins to seeing the Sistine Chapel to driving for hours along the Amalfi Coast--gave us the opportunity to experience a different culture and to see some of the most beautiful sights in the world. My favorite part of the whole trip was on our last day when we were driving back to Sorrento during a quick stop in Amalfi. Walking along the pier by the water with the sun on our backs with the cliffs and villages in the background was purely sublime. I miss my daily diet of cappuccinos and gelato almost as much as the scenery and people and feel so lucky to have experienced all that Rome and Sorrento had to offer with such a great group of Hopkins students."
- Caillin Gillespie, Class of 2011
