Twelve Hopkins Students named 2017 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

Congratulations to our 2017 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists, Sanaea Bhagwagar, Madeleine Cahn, Phoebe Cardenas, Hunter Congdon, Sean Gao, Lucy Hanson, Aaron Kogan, Ian Magill, Gwyneth Maloy, Nathaniel Nguyen, Gabrielle Olshan-Cantin and Anees Patwa.

With twelve students recognized, Hopkins fields the largest number of 2017 semifinalists from independent schools in Connecticut.

Nearly 16,000 high school students were recognized nationwide as semifinalists based on their 2015 Preliminary SAT (PSAT) scores. To advance to finalist standing, semifinalists must complete an application, provide academic transcripts, write an essay, receive a recommendation from a school official, and earn an SAT score that confirms the PSAT performance. Finalists will become eligible for scholarships either through the National Merit Corporation, participating colleges and universities or participating corporations.
