Concert Choir Performs "Tchaka"

At assembly on Monday morning, November 14, the Concert Choir shared a special performance of Tchaka, by Haitian-American composer Sydney Guillaume (composed in 2016).

In the piece, sung in Haitian Creole, Guillaume compares the cooking of a traditional Haitian stew to the great potential of a cultural melting pot, full of diverse ingredients and spicy rhythms. Some phrases that are repeated often are, "Chofe dife! (turn up the fire)", "Nou proklame lespwa e nou chante lape (We proclaimed hope and we sang of peace, so that the light of justice spreads throughout the earth), "N'ap kontinye chante pou fe lavi pi bel (We'll keep singing to make life more beautiful)", and "Nan jistis, nan renmen, an nou manje yon bon tchaka! (In justice and in love, let's eat a delicious tchaka!).

Please watch the performance in the attached video.
