Hopkins Music Program Celebrates the Holidays

On Sunday, December 11, 2016, the Hopkins community filled the pews of the Church of the Redeemer in New Haven for the Music of Winter Concert.  The annual holiday concert, presented by the Hopkins Art Department, features the Hopkins Orchestra, Junior School Chorus, Eighth-Grade Chorus, Hopkins Concert Choir, Cello Choir and Chamber Music group.

Concert Choir Co-Presidents Taty Rozetta '17 and Tim Halvorsen '17 welcomed the community and shared their love and appreciation of the Hopkins choral program.  Choral Director Erika Schroth and Orchestra Director Robert Smith presented a varied repertoire of music spanning the globe and centuries.

Keeping with a favored Hopkins tradition, senior Ellery Saluck '17 conducted the Choir and visiting alumni/ae in a stirring performance of “Oh, Holy Night.” The concert concluded with the audience invited to join in the singing of the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah.

On December 6th, the annual winter Jazz/Rock concert was held in Upper Heath Commons. Students, directed by Robert Smith, presented a joyous collection of music to the gathered crowd.
