Hopkins parents play a crucial role in the educational lives of their children and in the success of the School. We hope this website will be a valuable tool for the Hopkins parent community, a vehicle of frequent communication and collaboration between home and school.
Adviser System
At Hopkins, faculty advisers occupy an integral position within the educational experience of each student: the support, guidance and close personal relationships established between teachers, coaches, administrators, and students are central to the Hopkins ethos. Advisers act as advocates, friends, and mentors to their student advisees. Positioned at the confluence of student, parent, and faculty concerns and purposes, advisers strive to make the pursuit of excellence and the entire student experience rich and pleasurable as well as feasible for their student advisees. For parents, they provide a direct and personal line of contact, and, at times, referrals to other appropriate individuals in the school community. For faculty, they are sources of crucial information and interpreters of adolescent mysteries. Almost every faculty member advises a small group of 6-8 students and, for optimal continuity, that close-knit adviser group stays together in grades 10 through 12. Often adviser groups meet outside of school as well for social and educational get-togethers.
