Barbara M. Riley, Head of School, has announced that Timothy J. Phipps has been named Head Football Coach for Hopkins School effective July 1, 2015. In line with the Hopkins model of “teacher-coach”, Mr. Phipps is also appointed to the Faculty and will teach history.

Phipps joins Hopkins from Woodland Regional High School in Beacon Falls, CT where he has coached football since 2001. He was appointed Offensive Coordinator in 2008 and Head Coach in 2014. At Woodland, Phipps taught AP United States History and The History of the Vietnam War. Phipps replaces Hopkins’ long-time Athletic Director and Football Coach, Tom Parr, who retires June, 2015. Phipps will work closely with Rocco DeMaio who has been named Interim Athletic Director for Hopkins.

“I am thrilled that Tim is joining the Hopkins family and taking over the football program”, said Tom Parr. “He is a proven winner on the field and strongly believes in the concept of the student-athlete. Tim is the right man for this job and I know the current and former players will be proud that he is our coach.”

Rising Junior Douglas Wardlaw added, “I look forward to Coach Phipps' arrival. I hope to develop into a better football player under his leadership and guidance."

“I am very excited about the opportunity to teach and coach for a school so steeped in tradition as Hopkins School”, commented Phipps. “I wish Coach Parr all of the best in his retirement. I congratulate him on a phenomenal career.”

Timothy Phipps received his BA from the University of Connecticut in 1997 and his MA in Education from Sacred Heart University in 2000. He is married with three children.
