The Hilltoppers put together their best two halves of football on the season to take down Long Island Lutheran 21-6. This was the final home game for the senior class who were excited to walk away victors.
Hopkins started the game strong, taking the opening drive 63 yards over 8 plays where Nick Bailey found Jacob Shrader in the back of the endzone for a 19 yard touchdown completion. After forcing a 3 and out on Long Island Lutheran’s first possession, Hopkins would put together another 12 play, 47 yard scoring drive. Charlie Streator strung together some nice runs before Jake Moscarelli punched it into the endzone from 7 yards out to make it 14-0. The game continued at 14-0 through the end of the first half, with opportunities to score more points after clutch interceptions by Dave Barber and Jacob Shrader. The Hilltoppers opened the second half with a strong 3 and out, including a 3rd down sack by Jackson Quinn and Cooper Pettit. After Hopkins’ drive was cut short by an interception, Long Island Lutheran would get on the board with a passing touchdown of their own, shrinking Hopkins lead to 14-6. The score would stay 14-6 until late in the 4th quarter when Jake Moscarelli punched in his second touchdown of the game to make it 21-6. Long Island Lutheran took over down 15 with 4 minutes left to play but were unable to move the ball on the Hilltoppers. John Blumenthal, Sam Hecht and Cooper Pettit got to the quarterback on consecutive plays to give Hopkins the ball back and the game.
This marks Hopkins 3rd win on the season as they hope to finish 4-5 with their last game this Saturday. We would love to see our fans at St. Thomas More this Saturday at 2pm. Go Hop!
