David '20

Hopkins student David ’20 has only had his drivers license for ten months, but he’s already put it to great use.

David volunteers his time each Wednesday afternoon delivering pantry items directly to the homes of those who are in need and cannot or should not be leaving their home at this time. Organized through an interagency effort between the Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen (DESK) in New Haven and the Coordinated Food Assistance Network, these deliveries require David and other drivers to follow a strict protocol when delivering the food—from wiping down the interior of their cars with disinfectant before deliveries to coordinating drop locations with clients outside of their homes prior to delivery.
While David just began delivering recently, he’s been actively volunteering at DESK since he was 10 years old. Over the past seven years, he and his family have been serving meals regularly. His mother, Natalie, currently serves on the DESK Board of Directors, while his father, Steven, is also driving a separate delivery route once a week.

David said he plans on continuing his volunteerism at Denison University this fall. Thank you, David and family, for all you are doing to help support those in need in the New Haven community.
