Hopkins Announces New Academic and Performing Arts Center

Friday, October 21–During an all-school assembly, Head of School Matt Glendinning announced that in the Spring of 2023, Hopkins will begin construction of a new academic and performing arts center on the site of Lovell Hall. The new facility is projected to open in the Fall of 2024. The news was met by a collective gasp of excitement from the student body as well as faculty and staff.

"I am thrilled to have an opportunity to help bring this long-anticipated project to fruition," said Matt Glendinning in his Head of School Newsletter, Stepping Up.  "In my recent work at Moses Brown, I experienced the tremendous impact that a new academic and performing arts venue can have on a school community, functioning like a ‘student union’ by supporting social, academic, and artistic functions in tandem.  The proud legacy of Lovell Hall will live on in the new space," he added.

In his assembly remarks, Matt thanked the Hopkins’ Committee of Trustees for their vision and support for this project, as well as the many people – faculty, administrators, trustees, and former trustees – who have been involved in the design process, led by Hopkins’ long-time partners from S/L/A/M Collaborative.
