Theo LeCompte ’97, Alumnus Fellow and Harmonaire Returns to Hopkins

Theo LeCompte ’97 Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to the Secretary for Strategy and Operations at the U.S. Department of Commerce visited Hopkins on Monday, November 7th, the day before the 2016 Presidential election. LeCompte is named a 2016-2017 Alumni/ae Fellow along with Laina Jones Cox ’97 who will visit campus in the Spring.

Theo addressed students at Assembly, focusing his comments on his professional path to government service.  He also spoke of his time at Hopkins, what he learned and how his Hopkins education prepared him for the future.  “Hopkins,” he said, “gave me a tool kit for life: intellectual curiosity, analytical thinking and a passion to get the job done.”

Theo participated in three classes during his visit, two sections of 21st Century Democracy and Shakespeare and Injustice.  Students joined Theo for a luncheon in the Weissman Room where he thanked Clay Hall for reminding him how important it is to have a grasp of math and Joann Wich for giving him a love of music.  “There are some pieces of classical music I only know because of Mrs. Wich,” he commented.  “I’ll hear the piece and it hits me hard and I lose it.”  He also shared with students that his time as a Harmonaire prepared him for his most rewarding job–singing his two young sons to sleep at night.
