Hopkins Alum Nick Britell ’99 Celebrates "Moonlight" Best Motion Picture Drama Win at Golden Globe Awards

If you stayed up late for the final award of the 2017 Golden Globe telecast on Sunday, January 8, 2017, you had an opportunity to see the cast and crew of Moonlight on stage celebrating their win.  Included on stage was Hopkins Alum Nick Britell ’99, music composer for the film.  Britell also received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Score.

Britell is no stranger to the film awards season.  As a sought-after composer, Britell scored last year’s Oscar-nominated best picure, The Big Short, and his music was featured prominently in 12 Years a Slave and Whiplash which he also co-produced.  Britell’s work as a composer will also be featured in the upcoming release of two films– The Battle of the Sexes featuring Emma Stone as Billie Jean King and Steve Carrell as Bobby Riggs, and in 2018, Ocean’s Eight

Britell last visited the Hopkins campus on March 10, 2015 when he was named a 2014-2015 Alumni/ae Fellow.  During a school-wide assembly, Britell shared his journey from Hopkins to Harvard to Hollywood. An article and video of his visit is found here.
