History 8 students become Emperors

Mrs. Dunn’s History 8 class engaged in a special forum yesterday. Each student played the role of an ancient or medieval emperor from history and were tasked with advising a special guest, Dr. Bynum, who played the role of fictional emperor, Epapateva. Mr. Errol Saunders acted as adviser to Epapateva.

The student emperors counseled Epapateva on how to deal with issues facing his empire including rebellion, a weak economy, the lack of a functioning capital city, an unmotivated military, and multiple competing ideologies. Each student gave advice based on how their own emperor dealt with these issues.

Emperors in the class were: Harun al Rashid of the Abbasid caliphate, Mansa Musa of Mali, Shi Huangdi of China, Ashoka of India, Genghis Khan of the Mongol Empire, Alexander the Great of Macedon, Hammurabi of Babylon, Charlemagne of the Holy Roman Empire, Constantine of the Roman Empire, Augustus of the Roman Empire, Empress Wu of China, Hatshepsut of Egypt, and Cyrus the Great of Persia.
