HOP Chopped: Who Made the Cut?

On Friday May 12, students organized the first HOP Chopped competition to raise funds for the Connecticut Food Bank. The four contestants were Doug Wardlaw ’17, Martin Tipton ’17, Francine Giaimo ’19 and Lucas Alfaro ’22. The contestants were tasked with creating dishes from ingredients commonly found at Hopkins, including mystery ingredients such as curly fries and grilled cheese. The honorable panel of judges consisted of Chopped Junior runner up Drew Mindell '18, Claire from Claire's Cornercopia in New Haven, Courtney Marello from the Connecticut Food Bank, and Mr. Ziou (featuring Phoebe Cardenas '17 as Mr. Ziou's timer).

A lot of fun was had throughout the evening, and in the end Francine Giaimo was named the winner! The event raised $1,300 for the CT Food Bank. Thank you to the guest judges, and everyone who attended and supported the first HOP Chopped!
