HDA heads to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe

The HDA production of Shakespeare on a Shoestring: Cymbeline! is headed to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August!

Performances will be on August 14, 15, 16, 18, and 19 at 10:00am at Paradise in Augustines (Venue 152).  If you and your family are in the UK during this time, please try to come and see Hopkins at Fringe! Click here to see our listing in the festival guide.

This company is the next generation of the Fringe First Award winning company, The Shoestring Players. Director, Michael Calderone, a member of original Edinburgh Shoestring Players as a college student, is now a drama instructor, along with colleague Hope Hartup, at Hopkins School in New Haven, CT, USA.

The style of the performance is fast paced, colorful and cheeky. The ensemble of 16 actors and on-stage percussionists not only tell the tales but also become all of the scenery necessary. Shakespeare on a Shoestring is in its third year of productions beginning first with their hour-long version of A Midsummer Night's Dream and most recent Comedy of Errors.

Shakespeare on a Shoestring: Cymbeline! is an hour long retelling of this seldomly produced play with a unique approach. The actors explore whether or not Shakespeare can cram twelve Elizabethan tropes into one play: faked death, parental love-match veto and crossdressing just to name a few.

The company is comprised of secondary school aged actors therefore the show appeals to everyone from 8 year olds to 'tweens, teens and their families. In the heyday of Shoestring, a New York Times review stated, "If you are too old to enjoy Shoestring, you are too old altogether" and Edinburgh’s leading newspaper, The Scotsman, reported, "If you see one children's show this year (Shoestring) is it!"

Hopkins School is proud to revive this Fringe staple to entertain and amaze the next generation of theatergoers.
