Celebrating the Year of the Dog!

Hopkins celebrated the Chinese New Year on Wednesday, February 14 and welcomed the Year of the Dog, which is the year of 4,716 in Chinese Lunar Calendar!

A joyful celebration in Heath Commons featured a dumpling-making and eating festival, a taste of a variety of Chinese snacks including bubble tea, calligraphy and paper carving workshops, Chinese games Mahjong and Chinese Yoyo, picking up M&Ms & skittles using chopsticks, as well as an impromptu dance party. Special performances this year included a paper cutting performance by Mr. Hou Tien Cheng, who made custom masks and pieces of art for students and faculty with his skillful scissors cutting intricate details, as well as a special Tai Chi demonstration and workshop by Tian Zhen Yuan, a group visiting from China.

Chinese teacher Mrs. Lan Lin reports that over the course of the afternoon, over 2000 dumplings were made, and 500 cups of bubble tea were enjoyed! Thank you to all the parent volunteers who helped to make it a successful celebration, as well as all the members of the community who joined in the fun!
