Hop Teams Get Top Honors at CT Science Olympiad

For the 9th year since 2009, Hopkins Science Olympiad took home the first place trophy in the CT State Science Olympiad competition at the University of Connecticut on Saturday April 7.

The competition consists of 23 different events and, each year, a portion of the events are rotated to reflect the ever-changing nature of genetics, earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology, mechanical engineering and technology. By combining events from all disciplines, Science Olympiad encourages a wide cross-section of students to get involved. Emphasis is placed on active, hands-on group participation.

Hopkins sent two teams to the competition, earning 1st and 6th place honors. The competition was fierce as the A Team beat out South Windsor and Staples for the top spot. Overall, Hopkins earned 13 medals. Medals were awarded to the top three competitors (pair from each team) in each event. Medal winners are listed below. A team of fifteen students and three alternates will be heading to Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado to compete in the Science Olympiad National Tournament next week. We wish them luck!
