Alumni/ae Weekend 2018

Hopkins' 2018 Alumni/ae Weekend took place on June 1–2, with more than 600 alumni/ae and guests returning to campus. Alumni/ae attended a luncheon under the tent, attended special programs led by Hopkins faculty, played in the Alumni/ae games, enjoyed family activities and the culminating point of Reunion: dinner under the Big Tent with a rocking musical backdrop provided by the Reunion Band!

Alumni/ae Weekend began on Friday, June 1 with a kickoff party and reception in Heath Commons celebrating Donna Falcone Fasano ’68 DPH, who is retiring this year after 42 years teaching English at Hopkins. Read the full story about the event here. Following the reception, classes enjoyed reconnecting at parties at local restaurants and homes.

Events began on Saturday morning with a 50th Reunion Breakfast at Swensen House, and a Run/Walk in honor of retired faculty, Clay Hall, as well campus tours. A casual picnic lunch was served under the tent. Following the lunch, families enjoyed activities on Pratt Field including an inflatable obstacle course, cornhole, face painting, balloon animals and fresh-popped kettle corn. Families and friends also enjoyed watching the alumni/ae sports games, which included the annual alumni lacrosse game on Parr Field, an alumni baseball game played against the current Varsity squad, and a softball game bringing current students and alumna together on the outer fields.

Afternoon events included a 360 look at Hopkins with Head of School Kai Bynum in Thompson Hall, as well as a Back to Class: 21st Century Democracy session with History faculty and Assistant Head of School, John Roberts in the Weissman Room.

Another highlight of the afternoon was a talk about Sensory Processing Disorder from 2018 Distinguished Alumna Carol Stock Kranowitz ’63 DPH. Following her informative address, a reception was held in her honor as well as in honor of the Women’s Schools: Day Prospect Hill, Prospect Hill, Day and Miss Kates. Later in the afternoon, the Hopkins Black Alumni/ae Network (HBAN) held a Diversity and Inclusion reception in Heath Commons, inviting anyone in support of their mission to join. The group also held their inaugural mentorship program luncheon on Sunday, June 3, click here to read the full story

As the daytime activities came to a close, more Reunion alumni/ae arrived on campus for the evening's cocktail hour and dinner under the tent. After dinner and class photos, Jim Lawson and the Faculty Reunion Band rocked the tent with classics from the decades. Band members were: Ian Melchinger '88, Evan Gerritz '20, Jackie LaBelle-Young, Julia Rowny, Erika Schroth, Jim Lawson, Jason Alfandre '18, and Dan Gries.

It was a successful and joyful Reunion for the hundreds of alumni/ae who returned to Hopkins, to reconnect with one another and catch up with life on the Hill.

The oldest class to return to Hopkins this year were the classes of 1948 DAY, PHS and HGS. The class with the highest attendance was the Class of 2013. Alumni/ae travelled from all over the globe to come home to Hopkins, with one member of the class of 1958 HGS traveling from Germany. Thank you to everyone who attended and made this a successful Reunion!
