StuCo Launches the CFBF

On Friday, October 26, the Hopkins Student Council announced the opening of the holiday fundraising season, traditionally called the Canned Food Drive or CFD. StuCo President Sam Jenkins gave a little history of the CFD, explaining it’s origin where students collected cans of food to donate to local food pantries. Over the years it evolved into collecting donations of money to give to the Connecticut Food Bank, who can turn about $10 into enough food to feed one person for a week, namely monetary donations can help provide more meals to food insecure families in CT. Jenkins then announced that the fundraiser will furthermore be known as the Connecticut Food Bank Fundraiser, or CFBF. The renaming will better represent the nature of the annual program.

StuCo continued the opening ceremonies by reviewing the easy process of fundraising, and challenging every student to go out in their local community to raise funds this year. Each grade competes against each other for bragging rights at the end of the CFBF.

Following a thank you and message from Mia Freedenfeld of the CT Food Bank, Peaches delighted the gathered community with improv games, and a surprise flash mob ending was provided by Dance Crew and friends to celebrate the CFBF kickoff!
