History and English courses collaborate over "Henry V"

Last week History teacher Gerard Casanova set up a miniature battle field in the Weissman Room, representing the siege of the French port Harfleur in 1415 by the English army of Henry V for his Military History class. The special session was also attended by students taking the Heroic Figures and Political Shakespeare English electives, as a cross-curricular lesson in the context of Shakespeare’s Henry V. The siege of Harfleur, as well as the Battle of Agincourt, were two of King Henry’s victories in France. Casanova used the model to explain the tactical challenges and historical context of King Henry’s victory, and students were able to ask questions which helped them delve deeper into their reading of Henry V. Students will attend a performance of Henry V on the Hartford Stage later in the course.
