Field Hockey Double Overtime Thriller

Amanda Leone '20
Following an impressive lead against Cheshire Academy, winning 7-0, the Girls Varsity Field Hockey team was scheduled for one last game against King. The game would decide if they move forward to FAA Quarterfinals. The Thursday evening home game was full of excitement and determination. The seniors were not ready to play their final game.

The two teams battled for sixty minutes, with the game ending with a tie score of 3-3. What followed was a ten minute overtime of sudden death, played by only six field players and a goalie from each team.

The first overtime ended and the game was still tied. The next overtime began shortly after, near the end of the ten minute period, an offensive penalty corner was drawn. Captain Sara Chung ’19 received the ball as defenders and shot. The ball flew into the back left corner of the goal, hitting the backboard so hard it recoiled several feet. The girls were ecstatic. They were going to play Greens Farms Academy in the FAA Quarterfinals.
