Hopkins at the Berklee Jazz Festival

On Saturday, the Hopkins Jazz/Rock band traveled to Boston to compete in the 51st annual Berklee High School Jazz Festival. The band performed three difficult compositions that featured many student soloists and covered a variety of styles. After the adjudication was completed, our students had time to listen to other jazz bands perform from all across the country, cheering for their peers from other highly-regarded music programs. More than 200 jazz ensembles participated in the event, and over 5000 students, parents, teachers, and friends were in attendance. The competition was strong, but Hopkins gained 29 points over last year's score, even surpassing the scores from a number of larger, more established schools in Connecticut. In the end, it's not about the score for our students but the experience of facing a challenge and putting on a spectacular performance. Congratulations to Mr. DeVona and Jazz/Rock!
