Celebrating International Women's Day

This morning the heads of student clubs ERRO (Equal Rights, Respect & Opportunities) and SHOUTTE (Screen Host Outreach to understand and Talk about Trafficking and Education) organized a wonderful celebration of International Women’s Day at a special assembly.

Dr. Bynum opened the assembly with a reading of “Clam” by Mary Oliver. Students Katherine Takoudes ’20, Katie Broun ’19, Lizabeth Bamgboye ’20, Elizabeth Roy ’20, Anna Simon ’20, and Yasmin Bergemann ’20 introduced the sequence of events, as well as a special video of the community, which can be seen in the videos attached below, along with all performances.

Naomi Tomlin ’19 spoke about clothes and the Hopkins dress code, and Leah Miller ’20 and Fi Schroth-Douma ’19 read an essay by Isabel Vlahakis ’19 about gender bias in medical treatment. Madeleine Walker ’19 gave a brief biography of several powerful and influencial women throughout history. The presentation continued with a special combined a cappella performance by Spirens and Triple Trio, who offered “God is a Woman” by Ariana Grande. The celebration ended with a performance by Dance Crew (which unfortunately was blocked by Youtube copyright protections).

Thank you to the students for organizing such a great celebration of women!
