Hopkins' at the Asian American Footsteps Conference

On April 14th, five Hopkins students: Gisella Castagna '22, Zoe Kim '20, Jasmine Shah '21, Ivy Sun '24, and Yash Thakur '21, went to the Asian American Footsteps Conference with three chaperones, Ms. Lin, Ms. Li and Ms. Ran. This year the conference was held at Hotchkiss School.

During the conference, Asian, Asian American, mixed-heritage Asian students and their allies attending independent schools in New England went for a daylong series of empowering workshops, activities and networking opportunities.

“To put it simply, I am extremely happy that Hopkins was able to attend this event this year and I feel very fortunate to have attended. Having been to several conferences about student diversity and equity this past year, this has been by far my favorite one. Being in a school surrounded by people of the same race, and often ethnicity, who can relate exactly to the struggles of private school, and direct prejudice against Asian-Americans was amazing. It was very refreshing to be surrounded by such a supportive group and for the first time in my life, when I looked around, I actually saw people who looked like me, or had the same skin color as me. The sessions that were offered were also fascinating...I almost wish we had more time! ”  - Zoe Kim ’20
