Twenty-six members of the class of 2019 were inducted into the Cum Laude Society on Thursday evening, May 16. Following an introduction by Head of School Kai Bynum, and a history of the Cum Laude Society by Dean of Academics David Harpin, guest speaker Ted Clark '09 spoke to the students and their families. The Cum Laude Society has the tradition of inviting a Cum Laude member from 10 years ago to return to speak to the new inductees. Clark spoke about his journey after Hopkins, how he came to start his own historical walking tour company in Boston, Hub Town Tours, and offered advice to the students framed as the four "F's": Failure, Friends, Felicity, and Future. Please watch the video below to see Ted's presentation, as well as the program in full.

Ted Clark '09: After Hopkins, Ted Clark attended Bowdoin College in Maine, where his studies focused on history, archaeology, teaching, and journalism. Ted received his Bachelors of United States History in 2013, graduating magna cum laude and accepting induction to Phi Beta Kappa. After Bowdoin, Ted moved to Boston to be as close as possible to his beloved Red Sox, and began work in the museum field. After suffering through the general madness of the Boston Children’s Museum, Ted found his niche in museums along Boston’s Freedom Trail, first as an educator for the Paul Revere House, and later at Old South Meeting House, original site of the Boston Tea Party. In 2015, Ted joined the National Park Service, interpreting the stories along the Freedom Trail as a park ranger with Boston National Historical Park. After two years at Boston National, Ted launched his own historical walking tour business, Hub Town Tours, and has been walking and storytelling along Boston’s Freedom Trail ever since.
Hopkins is a private middle school and high school for grades 7-12. Located on a campus overlooking New Haven, CT, the School takes pride in its intellectually curious students as well as its dedicated faculty and staff.
