Student Films Earn High Honors at Film Festival

Student films produced in Mr. Melchinger’s video classes last spring were entered into the 2020 All American High School Film Festival.

Margaret ('21) and Ella ('21)'s Afterglow was the winner in the "Claustrophobic Creativity" challenge of the September Film Invitational. Given four weeks from concept to delivery, Margaret and Ella were challenged to create a movie where the camera can't leave its one single room...and upped the ante by recording the five-minute movie in a single take, a "oner." Margaret and Ella have won $500 worth of software subscriptions and a trophy.

Tree Hugger, made by Brendan '24, Cate '24, Miko '23, Devon '24, Chidimma '22, Dani '23, and Will '23, was honored as a Show Don't Tell Challenge NOMINEE.

Margaret (21)'s hand-drawn animation Just Like Me (Owl & Squirrel) was an Official Selection for the Fest. Unable to work with live actors during the spring quarantine version of Advanced Video Production, Margaret hand-drew several hundred sheets, synced them to recorded dialogue, and made a cartoon about a friendship that transcends the owl's natural inclination to eat the squirrel.

Congratulations to all our student filmmakers! Be sure to screen all of these films on the Arts Website:
