Hilltoppers Win First Game in Over a Year!

Katie Keogh
It was a beautiful sunny day to take the home turf in the first time in over a year! The Hilltoppers came out strong and ready to play scoring the first four goals. Junior, Marin Ciardiello scored first off an 8 Meter. Followed quickly by sophomore, Lauren Sklarz. Sklarz scored again from an assist from senior, Maya Junkins. After winning the draw, Ciardiello quickly transitioned into the attack and found sophomore, Shoshana Epstein for the quick shot into the net. To end the half senior attacker, Lola Panagos scored off a roll crease to a low backhand shot. Hopkins led at the half 7-1.
The second half started a little slower, not scoring a goal for the first 10 minutes. Defense paved the way shutting down the KO offense in several key moments. Junior goalkeeper, Emma Maldon, made several key saves and threw the ball out strong for the positive transition into the attack.
The Hilltoppers finished with the win. Marin Ciardiello had 6 goals and 1 assist, Lauren Sklarz had 3 goals and 2 assists, Shoshana Epstein had 2 goals and 1 assist, and Lola Panagos had a goal. Senior Maya Junkins had an assist. Goalkeeper Emma Maldon ended the day with 10 saves.
