Eight Hopkins Seniors Named National Merit Semi-Finalists

Congratulations to our 2022 seniors who were named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists: Maisie, Olivia, Erin, Joanna, Saraswathi, Max, Matthew and Andrew.

These Hopkins seniors are among 16,000 Semifinalists who will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $30 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship  award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.

About the Program
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an annual academic competition for recognition and college undergraduate scholarships. The competition is open to all U.S. high school students who meet published participation requirements. Scholarship winners are chosen on the basis of their abilities, skills, and accomplishments—without regard to gender, race, ethnic origin, or religious preference.

Each year, educators in about 21,000 high schools provide the opportunity for their students to participate in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Typically, over 1.5 million students in about 21,000 high schools enter the program annually.
