A Successful Alumni Weekend Back on Campus!

Hopkins held a Mega Alumni Weekend on Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4, 2022, welcoming alumni, their families, emeriti, faculty and staff back to campus to reconnect with each other and the School. After two years of virtual events due to Covid, alumni who celebrated reunions during those missed years were also invited to return, allowing for alumni to reconnect with friends from surrounding classes as well as their own.

Alumni Weekend began on Friday, June 3 with an Alumni Golf Tournament at the Orange Hills Country Club. Alumni and friends enjoyed a beautiful day on the course at this casual golf outing. The festivities continued with an evening reception on campus on the Calarco Library Patio, following which classes enjoyed reconnecting at parties at local restaurants and homes.

Events began on Saturday morning with a 50th Reunion Breakfast for the Class of 1972. A special celebration of retiring swimming and water polo Coach Chuck Elrick rounded out the morning. A casual picnic lunch was served under the tent. Following lunch, families enjoyed watching the alumni sports games, which included the annual alumni lacrosse game on Parr Field, an alumni baseball game played against the current Varsity squad, and a softball game bringing current students and alumnae together on Smilow Field.

Afternoon events included a Back to Class and Q&A session with current Trustees in Thompson Hall, and affinity group gatherings in Heath Commons. The School Store was also open for alumni to stock up on HOP gear. The afternoon continued with a celebration to honor 2022 Distinguished Alumnus The Honorable Frank Ianotti '72 HGS. There was also an unveiling of the Class of 2017 class gift: a goat statue "Hugh the Hilltopper" that now sits proudly outside the Walter Camp Athletic Center.

Over 700 alumni and guests were in attendance from classes ending in 2, 7, 1, 6, 0, and 5, over the course of the weekend. Guests journeyed from as far as Switzerland, and in all they visited from 28 different states and 3 countries. Shoutout to the Class of 1972 who collectively traveled from 14 different states to enjoy their 50th Reunion. The oldest class in attendance was 1952 HGS, Royal Wells came to celebrate his 70th Reunion.

It was a successful and joyful reunion for the hundreds of alumni who returned to Hopkins, to reconnect with one another and catch up with life on the Hill.
