Hopkins Drops to 1-2 on 2022 Season

On Saturday, September 24th, Hopkins hosted the Poly Prep Blue Devils for their 3rd game of the 2022 season.  In the previous season, Hopkins bested Poly twice (once in the regular season at Poly, 23-6, and also in a tight semifinal matchup in Milford, 38-36), so the Blue Devils were out for revenge this week.  In this contest, Poly scored early and often, finishing the game with a 41-6 win over the Hilltoppers.
Hopkins started the game on offense, and after a short series turned the ball over to the Blue Devils.  4 rushes later, Poly would find the endzone to make it 7-0.  After stalling on their second offensive series, Hopkins went back on defense and made their best play of the game.  On a quick out route, the ball went off the Poly receiver’s shoulder and into the hands of Ezra Fearon ‘24 who streaked down the sideline untouched for 65 yards and the touchdown.  A missed extra point kept the score at 7-6 in Poly’s favor, and this would be the closest Hopkins would get to evening the scoring.  Hopkins built a little momentum before the half, and facing a 27-6 deficit drove the ball into Poly territory.  On a long pass down the left side, the ball was intercepted by Poly and returned for a touchdown to make it 34-6 going into halftime.  Not much improved in the second half, as Poly scored on their opening drive to make it 41-6 and institute a running clock for the remainder of play.
On the day, the Hilltoppers did not play their best football and they will be quick to move on from this setback.  This upcoming Saturday, Hopkins will play host to New York Military Academy for their homecoming game.  We hope to see many fans at the game in what is expected to be a good matchup!  For a full schedule of homecoming events, CLICK HERE
