Hopkins Ski racing was started as a club in 2013 and became a winter sport for the 2015/16 winter season.  The goal of the program is to develop a lifelong love for skiing while competing as a cohesive team in the Connecticut Interscholastic Ski League (CISL). The girls and boys compete separately but train together.  Skiers need skiing experience, but not racing experience to join.

 

The Hopkins Ski Racing Team is coached by John Isaacs and Derek Byron.  Both coaches have  Level 100 Alpine Certifications from the United States Ski Association and are lifelong skiers themselves.

 

The winter season consists of both on campus dryland training in November and December and on snow practice and competition in January and February at Mt. Southington.  The Ski Team kicks off their on snow training with a training trip to northern New England at the beginning of the winter holiday break.  

 

The CISL is the largest high school ski racing league in Connecticut and operates at Mt. Southington, which hosts the only four lane wide ski race course known in America.  There are approximately 30 area schools that compete in the CISL, each school competing in 5 regular season races, which are exciting events for participants and spectators.
