Lacrosse - Varsity Boys
2023 - 2024Head Coach: Robert LoRiccoHopkins has had a Boys’ Lacrosse team since the 1970s, when the program was started by Bill Bakke, a faculty member and alumnus of Hopkins. The program expanded in the late 1970s, and currently there are 65 or more boys playing in the Junior School and the high school. In keeping with Hopkins commitment to educating student-athletes, emphasis is placed both on the skills needed to play the game and on the important role that a team can play in an individual’s development. Games are scheduled at the Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Junior School levels, guaranteeing every boy the team experience that Hopkins believes to be important. The Varsity team plays in both the Fairchester Athletic Association and Division 2 of the Western New England Secondary Lacrosse Association. The Hilltoppers have been consistently competitive in both leagues. Hopkins won the Fairchester title three times in the early 2000s and the post-season tournament in 2013. From the start of the program’s existence, the best Hopkins players have gone on to play at the college level, commonly at the Division III level and including NESCAC schools.
Head Varsity Coach Robert LoRicco joined the Hopkins Boys Lacrosse program for the 2024 season. A New Haven County native, Coach LoRicco played for Guilford High School before moving on to play at Southern Connecticut State University, where he was recognized as an MCLA US All-American Honorable Mention. He finished his collegiate lacrosse career at Division II Mercy University. While there, the team were threepeat Conference Champions, and made the school's first National Championship appearance. Coach LoRicco was then recognized with the NCAA Elite 90 Award for highest cumulative GPA amongst competing athletes. He has previously coached Division II Lacrosse for Mercy University, and coaches privately for individuals, groups, and clubs.
