Boys Squash Shines at Nationals

Members of our Varsity Boys Squash team competed in National Tournaments recently, and moved up in their rankings.
From Head Coach Whitney Stewart:

Dylan Underkofler prevailed in 4 of 5 matches in the SILVER Nationals last weekend, coming in 2nd (runner up) in the Finals against Shrikar Gopinath who is #44 in the country!  He went into the weekend ranked #70 (with 5.29 rating in Feb) to #63 in the country and 5.37 rating highest yet! Dylan keeps moving and moving UP!

This is what happened: Dylan started out seeded #5, won 1st Round 3-0, won 2nd round vs #63, 3-1, THEN in the 3rd Round Dylan took down the #1 seed Eric Zhang (#38), 3-1. Next, he beat Albert Yao (#70) in the Semis, then nearly won against #2 Seed, ending up 2 in the Silvers.   Great Nationals results!

Ronan Cheng-Slater had a similar start, winning the first 2 rounds of matches in the Bronze U19 Nationals. He lost in Semis, however he prevailed in the next 2 matches in the 2nd Consolation coming in #5 overall.  Seeded #24, Ronan was rated 4.88 in Feb but now is a 4.95, with a great start to playing in the U19s for only a short time! Great finish.

Benjy Novemsky, always super analytical, did note that the draw could have been different and is correct. What counts is showing up to play in U19 Bronze Nationals with the right attitude! He ended up 13-16th gaining 500+ points.  Benjy won his 1st Round 3-0. He played the #2 Seed, a 4.72 rated player, taking 1 game, 1-3, then was not able to beat the next player (yet)!  Benjy started out Seeded #29.  His February rating was 4.36, ending this week 4.43.

All of them now have their BEST EVER ratings...and it appears in all cases, they were underrated!
Proud as always of our Varsity Players competing in Nationals after our regular season...they showed GRIT!

Congratulations on all of your accomplishments!  Go Hop!
