Summer School 2026

Level Up Your Learning!

June 22–July 24, 2026

Middle School

for students entering grades 7–8
The Middle School provides a balanced array of academic and enrichment courses for students, both Hopkins and non-Hopkins, who will enter grades 7–8 in the fall.

Five weeks in length, the summer session runs from June 22 through July 24, and is held on the tranquil 104-acre Hopkins School campus overlooking the city of New Haven.

All Middle School classes are two hours in length and can be paired with one another for a full day.  For all classes, the first session (A) is 9:00-11:00 am, then after a short break, the second session (B) is from 11:15-1:15 pm.  Consider which class you want to start your day with!

Classes are kept small, typically averaging 8-10 students.  The Summer School reserves the right to cancel a class that does not reach the minimum enrollment of 4 students.  The academic day begins at 9:00 am and ends at 1:15 pm.

In honor of July 4th, there will be no school on Friday, July 3.

Financial aid is not offered for Middle School Classes.

  • Robot Rumble! Build, Code, Discover

    Class meets 9:00-11:00 am or 11:15 am-1:15 pm, June 22-July 24
Open to all students entering grades 7–9.
In this immersive, five-week robotics camp, students jump into the world of engineering as they design, build, and program their own custom robot! Using a microcontroller, small groups will wire LEDs, buttons, sensors, and motors to build a robot, then bring their creations to life with beginner-friendly MicroPython code.

As the weeks progress, each group’s robot will evolve from a simple rolling chassis into a smart machine that can navigate courses, dodge obstacles, and power a mechanism like a claw, arm, or launcher. Along the way, students will learn how robots sense their environment, how code controls motion, and how engineers test, troubleshoot, and improve their designs.

The class culminates in the Robot Rumble—a friendly and fun challenge where robots race through mazes, complete missions, or score points in a custom game. No prior coding or robotics experience is required—just curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to experiment.

No programming or computer science background is required, and separate middle and high school sections will be offered. Students are guided step-by-step through powerful no-code AI platforms such as Lovable and Cursor, along with hands-on exposure to modern Large Language Models, AI agents, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and context engineering. Stanford and MIT graduates in AI will be present in person from July 13-24 to teach.
