Hopkins wins a nail-biter against Capital Prep!

Hopkins was able to shake off a tough 4 game skid with their second win of the season on Friday, besting Capital Prep 15-8!  The Hilltoppers never trailed in the game, though this was a tight battle from start to finish.

Hopkins opened the scoring early in the second quarter, Dave Barber taking the snap and pushing his way into the endzone for a 3 yard score.  After forcing a 3 and out, Hopkins took over and converted their second touchdown, Nick Bailey hitting Jacob Shrader for a 35 yard score to make it 15-0.  Capital Prep responded with a long touchdown pass on their next drive cutting the score to 15-8.  With little time on the clock, Hopkins and Capital Prep traded possessions with 3 straight interceptions to end the half.

The second half saw no points scored but plenty of opportunities to flip the script.  Hopkins saw strong defensive line play from Doug Wardlaw, Cooper Pettit and Corey Rispoli who were constantly held and forced Capital Prep penalties.  As the game was winding down Capital Prep saw two chances to put points on the board deep in Hopkins territory.  The biggest play of the game came from Sam Hecht who sacked Capital Prep’s QB on a 4th and goal attempt with just over a minute left.  Capital Prep saw the ball one last time but had their pass attempts knocked away by Jake Moscarelli to end the game.
This was an extremely exciting game to be a part of and we were proud of all the home fans who cheered us to victory!  Hopkins will look to put together a two game winning streak as they travel to New York next weekend to face off against Riverdale Country Day School.
