Hopkins School Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to the Hopkins School website at www.hopkins.edu (“Website”), owned and operated by Hopkins School (“Hopkins School”, “we”, “us”).  

The protection of your personal information is important to us, and we have provided this policy to inform our Website visitors (“you,” “your”), of our policies and procedures regarding how we may collect, use, and protect your information. By accessing or using this Website, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.  

Information You Provide
Visitors to our Website may choose to provide us with information when submitting an inquiry, contacting us with questions or updates or when engaging in various other activities on our Website.

For example, if you are interested in receiving information about admissions at Hopkins School, you will be asked to provide us with the parent/guardian’s and student’s first and last name, the relationship to the student, address, phone number, email address, entering year, gender, current grade, and how you heard about Hopkins so that we may process your inquiry, send you the requested information, and support you on subsequent inquiries or after you submit your application. You may optionally provide additional information such as a preferred name, gender, and extracurricular activities of interest.

You may also choose to share your contact information and resume when applying for a position with Hopkins School or to inquire about and receive more information about Hopkins School.  

Alumni who choose to send us information about recent activities will also provide us with an email address so that we may contact them with questions.

Donors may provide their first and last name, email address, street address, and payment information when making a financial gift to Hopkins School.

Registered Users
Students who are enrolled at Hopkins School and their parents or legal guardians (“Registered Users”) will be provided with a username and password permitting access to designated portals available via the Website. Through these portals, Registered Users may access information pertaining to their or their child’s education record as collected through their ongoing interaction and educational experience with Hopkins School. 

In addition, select information in these portals is available to certain employees at Hopkins School as necessary to consider and facilitate student admissions and the legitimate educational interests of our students.

We maintain all education records in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and all applicable Connecticut laws. 

Information We Collect Automatically
When you visit our Website, our servers automatically record information sent from your browser (“Log Data”).  Log Data may include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, pages of the Website that you visit, the time spent on those pages, and access times and dates. We use this information to monitor, analyze use of, and administer the Website, and to better tailor it to your needs. 

To collect this information, we use Cookies.

Third-Party Website Tracking
We do not serve advertising on our Website, however, when you use the Internet, unaffiliated parties such as ad networks, web analytics companies and social networking platforms may collect information about your online activities over time and across our and other websites.  This information may be used to provide advertisements for products and services that may interest you, and those companies may use cookies, clear GIFs and other tracking technologies.  Hopkins School does not track your activity over time and across different websites or online services. We do not honor “do not track” signals transmitted by web browsers. We encourage you to visit the following links if you would like to opt-out of certain tracking conducted by unaffiliated third parties.

We do not sell or rent your information.  

We use and disclose your personal information only for the purposes described above and for the following:

  • As may be required by law or by a court order, in which case we shall attempt to notify you and work with you to seek to limit the scope of the required disclosure;
  • To our third-party service providers to allow them to provide Website features on our behalf;

Third-Party Service Providers
We may employ third-party companies and individuals to facilitate delivery of our Website and to provide certain features on our behalf, such as customer service, maintenance services, email management, database management, web analytics, review and processing of resumes/job applications, and improvement of our Website.  

How You Can Access and Modify Your Information
If you would like to review, correct, update or request that we delete personal information you have provided to us, please contact us at support@hopkins.edu and specify what you would like to review, correct, update, or have deleted.

Opt-Out
If you have provided us with your information in order to receive information about Hopkins School, we may send you email correspondence about our programs, request donations, or otherwise promote our work.  You may opt-out of receipt of these messages at any time by clicking on the unsubscribe link that appears at the bottom of some of our messaging or by contacting us at support@hopkins.edu.    

Data Retention
We may retain the information you provide for as long as is necessary to fulfill the purposes as described in this Privacy Policy, or as otherwise permissible by law.  We retain student education records in accordance with requirements from the State of Connecticut and the Office of the Public Records Administrator. 

Security
We implement industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to safeguard the data entrusted to us. We store data in secure server and cloud-based environments and utilize encryption technologies, firewalls, access controls and additional measures to protect the confidentiality, availability, and integrity of the data.  No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure, and we are not responsible for security incidents not reasonably within our control. 

Links and Widgets
Our Website contains links to third-party social networking websites.  If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to their website. The fact that we link to a website is not an endorsement or representation of our affiliation with that website. We do not control third-party websites or their privacy practices. These other websites may place their own cookies or other files on your computer, collect data or solicit personal information from you. Other sites follow different rules regarding the use or disclosure of the personal information you submit to them. We encourage you to read the privacy policies or statements of the other websites you visit.

Our Website also contains social network sharing widgets. These widgets may provide information to their associated social networks or third parties about your interaction with our Website, even if you do not click on or otherwise interact with the widget. Information is transmitted from your browser and may include an online identifier assigned by the social network or third party, information about your browser type, operating system, device type, IP address, and the URL of the page where the widget appears. Updates To This Privacy Policy
As we continue to develop our Website, we may, at our sole discretion, make changes to this Privacy Policy. The “last updated” date at the top of this policy indicates when it was last revised. Changes will become effective when posted.  If you do not agree to changes to this Privacy Policy, you may not continue to use this Website. We will not make material changes to the areas of the Website intended for Registered Users without providing them with notice and the opportunity to consent to such changes. Notice will be provided to the email address that we have on file for the Registered User or to the parent or legal guardian of the minor student.
