College Counseling at Hopkins

In support of the Hopkins mission, “the breeding up of hopeful youths…,” the College Counseling Office provides individualized guidance and support while fostering student engagement in the college search and application process. Our goal is to encourage independent reflection, research, and academic and personal growth in our students that promotes informed decision-making when planning their academic future.

College counseling is available to all high school students, and individual meetings begin during the winter of junior year. College counselors are matched with adviser groups, which allows us to work closely with advisers during this pivotal time in students' Hopkins experience. Hopkins college counselors are experts in the world of highly selective college admissions, including both domestic and international opportunities for students. The director and associate directors are full-time college counselors at Hopkins School.

Sophomores and juniors participate in class meetings and college fairs to familiarize themselves with the variety of options available to them. We host parent programming throughout the school year focusing on topics such as financial literacy, college entrance exams, and panel presentations with college admissions officers to provide context on the current admissions landscape. We are in regular contact with juniors, seniors, their parents, and their advisers to address specific questions and to share general information. Hopkins families also have access to an extensive website with grade-specific and topically organized content that they can utilize at any time.
