“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” Truly this was a Tale of Two Halves down in Stamford. After a bit of a delay as a 7/8 grade game finished, the older boys went to work. After a feeling out process by both squads, the Hilltoppers opened the scoring halfway into the first period on a drive by Stephen Mettler- he would finish the day 2/1. The rest of the half was the Jake Moscarelli show, though he had plenty of help. He had 5 goals but 4 were assisted in a nice display of team play. So Hopkins felt in pretty good shape at the half, determined to keep things rolling. Unfortunately, a sort of flukey screened shot by the hosts went in within a minute, followed by three more to knot things at 6. Hopkins answered with a couple to take it to 8-6 but then King responded to even the score after three. In the fourth, the Hilltoppers played frantically and sloppily so had very little settled offense and the hosts managed one with three minutes to play, subsequently holding on for the win. Next up for Hopkins is long-time rival, the Wyverns of Kingswood-Oxford.
