Red Storm Hits New Haven

The Hilltoppers faced the St. Lukes Red Storm of New Canaan today, in a Fairchester tournament contest.  By all history, the final result would qualify as a blow-out in this close and spirited rivalry, the visitors coming out ahead by a 5-2 margin.  This avenged a 6-5 Hopkins victory early in the spring, and also diverged from the pattern, long established, of 1goal contests between the two schools.  Today was all about the skill level of the visitors against the grit and determination of the hosts and goals were hard to come by.  Chris Sherk was his usual strong self in the net for Hopkins, with 16 saves and his counterpart was equally on top of his game.  Beyond that, the visitors controlled the ball for the great majority of the game and the Hilltoppers were guilty of far too many unforced turn-overs, limiting their chances at offense.  Despite the final result, the squad finished the season with a most respectable 8-6 record.  If you had asked for takers on that record, you would have found very few back in February or March so players have a sense of true satisfaction in accomplishment this spring.
