It doesn't get any more on fire than this. The girls had already taken care of Choate at our home game, but now we were literally on their turf. Without being able to practice on our turf field much, it's hard to transition from grass (the old fashioned game) to what everyone else plays now. We have been very grateful to Football and Varsity FH for sharing as much as they did this year! We got time on Friday on the Parr field which was extremelly helpful, and we used the gym for a slick practice on Thursday, but we were at a disadvantage going to the beautiful Choate fields today, where they practice and compete six days a week. Notwithstanding, the girls had their mindset in the right place, and took the field with the best attitude possible. Choate was so good on turf, their stickwork was tight and precise, but Hopkins saw the bigger picture better and moved the ball much more effectively. Our defense was tight as a drum, and offense worked together seamlessly to find the cracks that let the goals in, not to overlook the midfield, who played both of those roles and figured out how to make all of the necessary transitions with awesome skill. Today, we had the most spectacular goal of the season at the hand of Eva. She took a perfect pass to her space at the 40 yard line on a breakaway, never doubted, and 35 yards later fooled the Choate goalie and scored. I can't even begin to describe how joyous her goal was! The other goals which were of course equally as important, came from Sana, Amanda (2!!), and Caroline Viselli (our defensive sweeper). Naomi, our elder goalie, finished her season with us with a total shut-out! And then McKinley went in to close with a shut-out for her today as well. I am so immensely proud of how the girls handled the pressure of a 9-0 undefeated season and went to Choate to deal with the game today. I've said it before, the trust and respect that we all have in and for each other is the key to this wonderfdul year that we're having. Go Hop!
