Hopkins Honored by the CT Food Bank

The Connecticut Food Bank honored Hopkins School with the 2017 Distinguished Philanthropic Award in Schools at a special 35th Anniversary and Donor Reception on September 17, 2017.

Of this award, Mia Freedenfeld, Special Events Manager of the CT Food Bank said, “We have had the honor of working with students from the Hopkins School for almost 30 years. Many [Hopkins] groups have come through to volunteer, join us at events, fundraise on our behalf and collect vital food through food drives. It is amazing the generosity and passion that your students have and continue to show for the community and in the fight against hunger. You have done a remarkable job instilling those values in your students.”

Before the award presentation and reception, a group of Hopkins students including Talia Chang ’22, Orly Baum ’22, Katherine Takoudes ’20,  Owen Lamothe ’22, Madeleine Walker ’19, Donasia Gray ’18, Deepak Gupta ‘18, volunteered at the Wallingford Distribution Center, packing and sorting food while tours were given of the facility. Head of School Dr. Kai Bynum and Dean of Students, Lars Jorgensen also attended the reception and presentation of the award.

Over the last 10 years, Hopkins has raised $679,528.68 during the annual Canned Food Drive fundraiser to benefit the CT Food Bank.
