Sydney Hirsch ‘19 Wins USA National Fencing Championship
In July, Sydney Hirsch ’19 joined the ranks of Aaron Kogan ’17 (MIT fencing ’21) as the only Hopkins USA national fencing champions. Sydney won the Division 1A women’s sabre championship at the USA Fencing Summer Nationals in St. Louis, Missouri. Sydney also medaled (5th out of 156) in the Junior (under 20) event.
Medaling twice at the USA National Fencing Championships was the culmination of a great fencing season. Sydney competed in 28 events (7 international, 6 national, 10 regional, and 5 for Hopkins) and medaled in 19 of them; 13 were 1st place Gold!
This season, Sydney also joined Aaron and Nicole Kogan ’14 (MIT fencing ’18) as Hopkins only multiple Connecticut state fencing champions (Aaron 3, Nicole 2, and Sydney 2). Congratulations Sydney!
