Five Seniors Named Presidential Scholar Candidates
Congratulations to seniors (pictured above L–R) Yoonie Kim, Catey Lasersohn, Adwith Mukherjee, Ethan Silver, and Nick Schoelkopf who have been named Presidential Scholar candidates. These students are among 136 candidates from Connecticut, and over 5,200 nationally, who were selected based on their exceptional 2018 SAT or ACT scores. Our students may now chose to continue their candidacy by submitting an application, which includes an essay among other requirements. Each year, up to 161 students are named Presidential Scholars, one of the nation's highest honors for high school students.
The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of our nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. In 1979, the program was extended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative and performing arts. In 2015, the program was again extended to recognize students who demonstrate ability and accomplishment in career and technical education fields.
