The Heart of a Giant Award is presented by the Hospital for Special Surgery and the New York Giants. High school football coaches in the tri-state area may nominate one member of their team annually. The top 60 nominees are eligible to be voted on by the public. Finalists receive a $1,000 equipment grant for their school, and one grand prize winner receives a $10,000 grant and a trophy, given at a New York Giants home game in December.
Head Coach Tim Phipps said, "when Miko and I met about this award and her potentially winning it, in a manner true to her spirit Miko said we should find a way to donate the prize. To me, that says everything you need to know about this Hilltopper and why she has the Heart of a Giant."
