After a disappointing loss, and finally on their field (sorry boys!) the Hilltoppers were eager to prove themselves. The Stamford team came to us with a respectable 5-4 record and many goals scored already. The game started quickly with a series of forays in KLHT’s box. Hopkins’ forward were hard at work: Cally, Becky and Erin combining well and forcing the visitors’ defense and keeper to in extremis saves and clears over the end line. 11 minutes into the game this pressure resulted into the hosts’ first goal: Erin made a great run far post and caught Becky’s ball. Four minutes later on another pass from Becky, Kara would be at the right place and time and found the back of the net. Eight minutes before the half Katie served a beautiful long ball to Heather who sent a nice shot behind the Stamford goalie. Although the visitors never folded and came to threaten our goal a couple of times during the second half, Jenny was composed and shut off their chances. Later in the half, Becky, who was definitely “on” today, caught a pass from Sophie and put the game away for good.
This was a great game that restored confidence and gave everyone on the team a chance to contribute.
