Congratulations to a few of our Hopkins friends who spend a lot of time in the pool! First and foremost, Hopkins Swim Coach Chuck Elrick has been selected
to be a coach at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He will be a coach for a swim camp to be held for elite athletes from August 19 to August 26. When asked, Coach Elrick said he was "very excited" about the opportunity. "They caught me off guard. The news really blew me away." In other words he was not seeking it out. They sought him as one of only three coaches from Connecticut.
Coach Elrick is not the only one bound for olympic training. Hopkins junior Nicole Kett was selected by Connecticut Swimming Inc. to attend the same camp, representing Connecticut elite swimmers at the U.S. Olympic Training Center. Nicole will be attending the camp during the same week as Coach Elrick.
Wearing his other hat, Chuck Elrick, head coach of the Hopkins Mariner Swim Team, an age group swim program run at the Hopkins pool in the evening, has had his first Olympic Trials qualifier. Margaux Farrell, a junior at Amity High School and member of the Mariner Swim Team, qualified in the 100 meter freestyle for the U.S. Olympic Trials to be held next June in Nebraska.
Hopkins is a private middle school and high school for grades 7-12. Located on a campus overlooking New Haven, CT, the School takes pride in its intellectually curious students as well as its dedicated faculty and staff.
