On Monday, November 30th, Neda Rastegar, parent to Sanam '12 and Nader '14, visited Ms. Damdar's French 6 Class to share her experience growing up and eventually fleeing Iran.

Ms. Damdar describes Mrs. Rastegar's visit:
"In French 6 we studied the French film, Persépolis, an autobiographical, animated version of Marjane Sartrapi's graphic novels. The 'coming of age' film focuses on Iran, from the 70's through the revolution and war with Iraq, describing the changes from a very liberal and free society to what it is now, through the eyes of a child, then teenager, then young adult. Neda spoke of her own experience when the Iranian revolution occured while she was in 8th grade and how her life and the country changed. She told of her family's fleeing of Iran to France and to the US; Neda spent each of her high school years in a different country. Hearing about Neda's similar real story from one of our own in the Hopkins community and made the film come alive even more. It was a true pleasure. This is another reminder that our community diversity here truly is a blessing and a strength."
